It is based on Google Search, that shows how often a particular search term is entered relative to the total search volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages. A part of Google Trends, Google Correlate allows you to look at search trends over time, It enables you to find queries with a similar pattern to a target data series. The fascinating part of Google Correlate is the "Search by Drawing" function. Draw a fun graph and it will provide you keywords which fit the graph trend. In below example, I drew a line on the tool decreasing from 100 to 20 for India and it displayed one of the charts of "Free themes for Nokia" and everyone knows the Nokia story, quiet accurate.

If you search for keyword MAHATMA GANDHI, it will show a trend of how many times the word is used in books in last 200 years. You can narrow down to a period and find specific books. Clearly, 1960 was the year with a peak for books mentioning him and since then it has shown a downward trend.
