SoftBank eyes a piece of Zomato, India's cleanest cities, and more trending news

SoftBank is in early talks with Zomato for a potential investment. Economic Times reports that the Japanese conglomerate has "discussed metrics across the company's three main business lines," besides its international expansion plans. Earlier, media reports said SoftBank was looking to pump $200-250 million into Zomato's rival Swiggy, but the Naspers-backed firm felt it was a little premature to raise a large round from the Japanese investor. “For SoftBank, to deploy large pools of capital of $100-400 million and move the needle, it needs core sectors such as (food delivery),” said Growth Story's K Ganesh.

Madhya Pradesh is a clear winner in the cleanliness contest. Two of its cities – Indore (rank 1) and Bhopal (rank 2) – have retained the title of being the cleanest in the country in the government’s Swachh Survekshan survey. Chandigarh came in third. Vijayawada, Mysuru and the New Delhi Municipal Corporation are the cleanest big (population over 1 million), medium-sized (300,000 to 1 million) and small (under 300,000) cities, respectively. Jharkhand has been adjudged the best-performing state for showing improvements across towns. The survey used three metrics: self-declarations by cities; observation and surveys; and citizen feedback.
