Apart from the US, India is the second largest workforce for Amazon. They have recently announced that they are looking to hire over 1000 people from India alone. These jobs are for its centres in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi.

Amazon has listed 1,232 open positions and most of these are openings that are software and IT related. Dale Vaz, director of software development at Amazon India, has said, “we are looking for people who are either research scientists, data analysts, Android developers, know natural language processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning”.

Among the list of job openings, Bengaluru has 556 job openings, Hyderabad has 396 openings and Chennai, which focuses on the development of Kindle and Fire devices, has 144 job openings. The other job positions are available in its Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune centres.

1. Software Development Engineer

Amazon hires most for this role. There are 448 open positions in various roles. Some of the popular and in-demand job roles are related to software development, data engineers and programmers.

In the Bangalore centre, you could be a part of the team which is refining the online payment solutions or be a part of the Alexa technology team which is responsible for building innovative products for Alexa developers and customers.

These are some of the numerous roles which are offered to software development engineers.

Though the basic qualifications are different for every role, these are the common ones that are definitely required:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field
  • At least 3 years of experience in software development
  • Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or PERL
  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, run-time analysis, object-oriented design and code quality verification

2. Area Managers

Amazon is hiring Area Managers for its Fulfillment centres. The responsibilities of the area manager are similar to that of any operations manager, such as creating staffing plans and schedules, appraisals etc.

Basic requirements:

  • BE/B.Tech Engineering from a reputed university, Operations or related field. MBA Preferred
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Basic working knowledge of the department

4. Data Engineers

5. Business Analyst

Your responsibilities would be to:
