I'm a Madison based data scientist specializing in data analysis, statistics, modeling, computer programming and building modeling software. I spend my time between working in the Division of Public Health where I am developing a R programming core (with the aim of reducing the amount of public money spent on SAS licenses), and providing national and international technical training (R or Python) for Accelebrate. I have a diverse background, including several years of experience teaching and training people from tertiary classes in research methods, statistics, and geographic information systems to public health departments and corporate trainings. Currently I am responsible for keeping the state's public health staff savvy with electronic surveillance technology (creating a statewide training program, software documentation, live seminars, end-user analytics, etc.) and training state staff to transition to R for data science while establishing a common code base and protocol for use in the department. In my MSc I created an artificial intelligence platform (including a GIS application for applying and visualizing neural networks spatially) for DOC staff to help them identify hot spots for predator activity. I also have published research in molecular biology, entomology, and conservation ecology. Overall I tend to be quite flexible in that I'm better statistician than a software engineer, a better software engineer than a statistician, and better at dealing with people than the average IT staffer; a jack of all trades with a penchant for data.
